Preliminary Task:Front Cover Textual Analysis

Masthead: The Title is basic but bold which stands out. The colour pink also grabs the attention of the people reading it and it also indicates that anyone can read it such as a male or female and is not targeted at a particular person.

Dateline: There is a date on the magazine which is september 2010 and a price of US$ 4.00.This magazine can be for students from any college student and not for anyone particular. On The top f the magazine it also says 'great since 1986' which is the selling line and will persuade students that are getting ready for university to buy it as it is a good magazine and has been for years.

Cover lines: There are many cover lines on the front cover that relate to university and what will catch people's attention. The cover lines are also not boring and relate to student who will look at the front cover and would want to read more.

A barcode is not displayed on the front cover as it can be displayed on the back of the magazine.

Setting: The background is blank and just the colour white but there is a lot of colour in the headings and text which stands out. The text seems very immature and childish but looks fun and will attract young people as they will like funky fonts which will look like a good magazine to them.

There is a boy standing who looks really serious with a suit on which can show that he is serious about education and has a lot ot say but on the other hand his wearing trainer which can show that even though he might be going university and seems very mature, he might be into sports and enjoy himself at the same time.

The type of lighting used is high key as it's a good and fun magazine and not scary or mysterious for there to be any low key lighting. It also brings out the colours and the white on the young mans shirt and the background looks very sharp.

There is also non- verbal communication as there is no noises but the person is staring at you and looks really serious.

Denotation: We can see a young man dressed smart and his hands in his pockets.

Connotation: This suggests that he is a serious student ready to inspire others to do well in higher education.

Setting:
The setting looks like there is an ancient temple and in an mythical place and there is also low-key lighting which shows mystery and adventure. There is also a skull and also stairs to where the fire is so this can mean that the stairs lead you to a dangerous place.

Costume:
He looks scruffy and dirty and has a khaki shirt and trousers which can mean that he has a big adventure and comes across danger.
Props:
he has a whip and a gun and this makes him look like trouble and a rulebreaker.

Anchorage:
Tells us quite alot about the films style

Lighting:
Theres low key lighting which makes the image mysterious but theres also a high key lighting further back where theres fire and that can mean that his in a dangerous place.

NVC:
His body languge looks serious and is ready for whatever his going to face. he also has closed fists which means he is serious and ready to battle or is determined to do his job.

Induction: Re-Creation of a Movie Magazine Front Cover

This is my first assignment for AS media which i have done. I hardly use photoshop therefore i found some bits difficult to do but enjoyed most of the activity. I learnt new skills and gained more knowledge from photoshop and will use it more often now that i looked deeply into it and used it to re design a magazine cover with includes a lot of detail and colour.
